(in-flam-ma’-shun). A diseased state marked by heat, redne , swelling and fever; it pa es on to congestion of the parts, and po ibly to suppuration or mortification. The Greek term for inflammation is “it is”; hence we get glo itis, inflammation of the tongue; peritonitis, inflammation of the peritoneum; and so on.
