screw quoin (skrokoin)

In printing, a quoin of two or more parts which widens and tightens composed types by means of a screw which connects these parts. Many forms are in use. screw-rod (skrö'rod), n. A rod with a screw and nut at one or both ends, used principally as a binding or tightening-rod. screw-rudder (skrö'ruder), n. An application of the screw to purposes of steering, taking the place of a rudder. The direction of its axis is changed, by means of a joint in the shaft, to give the required direction to the ve el, and the efficiency of this device does not depend upon the motion of the ve el, as with a rudder.
