Cæsura

[Lat., from cado, I cut.] ( Pros.) A metrical break in the verse occasioned by the separation of the first syllable of a foot, forming the last of a word from the next syllable forming the first of another: thus "I sing the sofa | I who lately sang Of man's first disobedience | and the fruit."
