In an at., a digit; a finger or toe; specifically, a digit of the fore limb, or a finger, as distinguished from dactylus, a toe. Wilder deg no, L. dignus, worthy: see dignity. Cf. and Gage. [Rare.] -2. In entom., one of the joints of the tarsus exclusive of the basal joint, which is called the metatarsus, palm a, or planta: used in describing bees.
