Long fellow, Henry Wads worth

American poet, born at Portland, Maine; after studying on the Continent, became profe or of Modern Languages in Harvard University; wrote "Hyper i on," a romance in prose, and a succe ion of poems as well as lyrics, among the former "Evangeline," "The Golden Legend," "Hiawatha," and "Miles Standish" (1807-1882).
