Winston near Barnard Castle, Durham 23 April 1790; joined his uncle Aaron Arrow smith of Soho Square London, geographer 14 Feb. 1810; one of founders of Royal geographical society 1830, gold medallist 1862; produced London atlas of universal geography 1834, 3 ed. 1858; illustrated with maps Leichhardt’s journal of an overland expedition in Australia 1847, and many other books; bought 10 Soho Square 1839, carried on busine there down to 1861 when he retired; F.R.A.S. d. 35 Here ford sq.
