Coni roster

( Zool.) One of the CONIROSTRES, q. v. Coniros'tral, a. ( Zool.) Having a thick, conical beak, as the birds of the tribe Conirostres. Coniros'tres, n . pl . [Lat. conus , cone, and rostrum , beak.] (Zool.) A tribe of birds, of the order In ce ores , or Pa eres, including those birds which have a strong conical bill, the margin of which is not toothed or indented. The greater part of these are omnivorous; but some are exclusively granivorous. Cuvier observes that they live more or le exclusively upon seeds, in proportion as their bill is more or le thick. Crows, Starlings, and Finches are examples of this tribe.
