BOLDEN, Samuel Edward ( younger son of John Bolden of Hyning near Lancaster, breeder of shorthorn cattle 1776–1855 ). b. 1812; one of promoters of Lancaster and Car lisle railway opened 1846; one of the most succe ful breeders and soundest judges of shorthorn cattle; the first breeder to realise £1,000 for one animal; sold his herd 1862. d.
