Pachler-Koschak (pikh’-lér-k6’-shak), Marie Leopoldine, Graz, Oct. 2, r792 —April 10, 1855; pianist and composer; friend of Beethoven, Pachmann (pikh-min), Vladimir de, Ode a, July 27, 1848—Rome, Jan. 8. 1933; notable pianist especially devoted to Chopin’s mus.; son and pupil of a prof. at Vienna Univ.; studied also with Dachs, Vienna Cons.; 1869 toured Ru ia with great succ. that followed him throughout Europe and America; in Denmark he received the Order of the Danebrog from the King; 1916, Beethoven medal of London Philh.; returned to U. S. 1923 after a decade’s absence; in final years his playing was marked by many eccentricities. was more noted for refinement of effects in his playing than for sustained strength of interpretation.
