idioplasm

(id’e-o-plazm) (Gr. ἴδιος own + πλάσμα anything formed]. The active, vital, or reproductive part of a cell contained in the chromosomes of the nucleus; on it depend the peculiar characters of the cell. Called also germ-plasm.
