Prionodon (prionodon)

[NL., = E. tooth .] In zoöl., nus of giant armadillos of South America, the only species of which is the kabalas sou, P. gigas. (2) A genus of Malayan viverrine quadrupeds of the subfamily Priono dont inæ, containing such as P. gracilis, which is white with broad black cro bands; the linsangs. This genus was founded by Hors field in 1823. See cut under delun dung. (b) In ichth., a genus of sharks or subgenus of Car char i as or Car char in us. Müller and Henle, 1841. prionodont (pri-on'ō-dont), a. and n. [ = a. Having teeth set like a saw; having serrated teeth. Specifically-(a) Having very numerous teeth, 20 or 25 above and below on each side, as an armadillo of the genus Prionodon. (b) Having the tubercular molars reduced to one on each side above and below, as a civet-cat of the genus Prionodon. (c) In conch., transversely plicated, as the hinge of the Prion odes mace a. II. n. 1. An armadillo of the subfamily Pri ono dont inæ.-2. A linsang of the subfamily Prionodontinæ .
