Esbach’s a. consists of a small graduated tube, which is filled up to a certain mark with the liquid under examination; the level of the liquid is then brought u another mark by adding a solution containing 10 grammes of picric acid and 20 grammes of citric acid to 1 litre of water; the tube is closed with a rubber stopper, shaken and allowed to stand for 24 hours; the precipitate of albumin may then be read off in grammes to the litre.
