ANEMOMETER

Dr. Lind's Anemometer, described in the Dictionary of Science, gives the means of determining at any particular instant the force of the wind by its pre ure against a column of water directly opposed to it. For meterological purposes it is, however, very important that instruments should be self registering, because the changes proposed to be measured often take place very suddenly, and may therefore escape notice altogether when observations are taken at intervals. The anemometer now generally introduced into the principal observatories was contrived by Mr. 1347 [s. 1364]
