A colorle , very mobile liquid, C,H,0 = CH?.0.- C,H,, of a pleasant aromatic. odor, isomeric with benzoic alcohol and taurylic acid; formed by the action of caustic baryta on anisic acid or on methyl salicylate, also directly from san, by the substitution of methyl for one atom of hydrogen.
