Turnip

[Fr. tour, a turn; and AS. nacp, turnip.] A plant with a large round root, taper¬ ing downwards. A native of Europe and temperate parts of Asia. It is a common garden vegetable, and in many countries it is largely grown for sheep and cattle food. The Swedish turnip, or rut a bag a, is much used in Europe this purpose.
