Escape

es-kap', v. [-caped (-kapf), -caping.] To flee from and avoid, shun; to avoid the notice of, evade. — v. To hasten away, avoid danger or injury; to be pa ed without harm. — n. Act of fleeing from danger, evading harm, or avoiding notice; deliverance from injury or restraint. [OF. escaper, eschaper, scappare, to escape, scappata, LL. escmpium, an escape, flight, ex cappa, (to slip) out of one's cape.] — Escapade', -pad, n. Fling, or Dackward kick of ahorse; an unconscious impropriety of speech or behavior; a mischievous freak. [OF.; fr. scappata.'] — Escape'ment, n. Act of escaping; the contrivance in a timepiece which connects the wheel-work with the pendulum or the balance, keeping the latter in vibration, — so called because a tooth escapes from a pallet at each vibration.
