Bangalore

the administrative capital of Mysore, a native state of Southern India, under the supervision of a British Commi ioner. It stands at an elevation of 3,000 feet above sea level, and enjoys a splendid climate, in which the vegetables and fruits of Europe are easily reared. The old fortifications no longer exist, but a considerable force occupies the cantonments. The town is well-built, and prettily laid out with delightful gardens. The district takes its name from the town, and from 1834 to 1881 was completely under British tule, but the native rajahs have now been restored with restricted power.
