(ko-de’in) [L. code i’na]._ A white or whitish, crystalline alkaloid, C,,H,,NO,+11,0, from opium: soluble in So parts of cold water and 17 parts of boiling water, and easily soluble in alcohol and ether; it is narcotic, but le so than morphin: used as a substitute for morphin in severe cough, diabetes mellitus, and pain in the intestines. Dose, 4-2 gr. (0.03-0.13 gm.). c. hydro iodate, a salt, C,sH,,NO,.HI + HO, anodyne and hypnotic: recommendcd for use in children’s diseases. c. phosphate, a salt, in colorle needles, C,sH,NO3.- H;PO, + 2H,O: a good substitute for morphin. Dose, ἐ-ἶ gr. (0.025-0.05 gm.). ¢. sulphate, a white, crystalline powder. Dose, $-1 gr. (0.03-0.06 gm.). c. valerian ate, an antispasmodic and hypnotic salt. Dose, } gr. (0.015 gm.).
