cow'pox

A specific contagious disease of bovine animals (chiefly milch cows), communicable to man and to various animals by inoculation; characterized by lesions resembling those of smallpox, usually on the udder in cows. The liquid contents of the pocks (lymph, vaccine) are used in the practice of vaccination. See vaccinia.
