Alimony

(al'i-mo-ne.) [From Lat. alo, I nourish.] (Law.) The allowance which a husband, by order of court, pays to his wife, living separate from him, for her maintenance. A. maybe awarded either during the progre of a suit for divorce (A. pendente lite), or it may be given after a decree for judicial separation has been pronounced. [s. 20]
