Virginia

A part of North America, including the present state of Virginia, but of much greater extent. Blaeu defines it as the country and forty-four degrees of north latitude, bounded on the east by the ocean and New Netherlands, on the south by Florida, on the north by New between the parallels of thirty-six France, on the west by regions unknown. (P. 39.) Milton wrote his Animadv. in 1641, thirty-four years after the settlement of James town. Hakluyt describes at length the English voyages to Virginia. 326
