argel, arghel

[Mod. Syriac.] A name given in Syria and the Levant to the Cynanchum or Sole no stemma argel, an asclepiadaceous plant, the leaves of which are used in Egypt for adulterating senna. ( Lindley.) ar-ge-mạ, 8. 「In Sp. & Lat. argema ; Gr. ἄργεμος (argemos), ἄργεμον ( argemon ), and ἄργεμα ( argema ); from ἀργός ( argos ) = shining, bright.] A small white speck or ulcer partly on the cornea, and partly on the sclerotic coat of the eye.
