Metempsychosis

(me-tem-si-kō'sis.) [Gr. metempsuchos, I make the soul pa from one body into another.] The doctrine of transmigration, which supposes that the soul of man, upon leaving the body, becomes the soul of some other animal. This was the doctrine of Pythagoras and his followers, and is still the prevailing doctrine in some parts of Asia, particularly in India and China. [s. 595]
