[NITRIFY.] The act or proce of forming or converting into niter. ni-tri-fỹ, v. t. & i. [Lat. nitrum = niter, and, facio (pa .fio)=to make.] A. Trans .: To form or convert into niter. B. In trans.: To become formed or converted into IMG:content-0069.png:[blocks in formation] IMG:content-0070.png:[blocks in formation] water or alcohol, evaporating the solution to dryne , and decomposing with concentrated sulphuric acid. It crystallizes in colorle cubes, which melt at 15° to a colorle oil of powerful odor. It cannot be distilled, as it explodes with violence when heated.
