fish poison (fishpoi"zn)

A name given to various plants which have the property of killing or stupefying fish. The number of such plants is very large, and the fruit is usually the part employed. Among the more commonly known are the Anamirta pa niculata, usually called Cocculus Indicus; Piscidia Ery thrina, a leguminous tree of the West Indies, the leaves of which are used; Lepidium Piscidium; the mullen, Ver bascum Thapsus; and the red buckeye, Esculus Pavia. fish-pomace (fish'pumas), n. 1. The residuum or refuse of fish, as menhaden, after the oil has been expre ed.-2. The crude state of fish guano before it has been prepared as a fer tilizer. Also called fish - chum.
