[Modern Latin Hel en( ium ), in the botanical name Inula helenium, and suff. -in, -ine ( Chem.) (q. v.).] Chem.: A crystalline substance existing in the root of elecampane, Inula helenium . Obtained by exhausting the root with hot alcohol, and purifying the crystals till they melt at 110. They are colorle , inodorous needles; the mother liquid contains Inula camphor .
