[NL.] A genus of cteno phorans, typical of the family Bolinida. Bolina is one of the most transparent of the comb-bearing meduse. The body is very gelatinous and highly phosphorescent. The sides of the body are developed into two larger lappets or lobes which are carried the long vertically instead of horizontally. On account of contractile powers of the body walls, Bolina can vary its outlines very considerably; as a rule, however, when the body is seen from the side, it has an oval or elongated form. Stand. Nat. Hist., I. 110.
