Rope

A combination of the fibrous material obtained either from hemp, manilia, coir, etc., spun into threads, called yarns, which are twisted together into strands; several strands being wound or laid together forming a rope. In modern practice ropes composed of iron-, or steel-wire have largely replaced hempen cordage for standing-rigging, hawsers, warps, etc.
