See ether1. A the ria (e-the'ri-ä), n. [NL., appar. named from the brilliancy of the interior surface, ætherius, of the ether or upper air, heavenly, ethe real: see ethereal.] A genus of bivalve mol lusks, of the family Unionida, found in the rivers of Africa and Madagascar; river oysters. The exterior is rugged, but the interior of the valves is pearly, of a vivid green color, and raised in small blisters, Ætheria semilunata. The natives of Nubia adorn their tombs with them. Also spelled Etheria, as originally by Lamarck, 1808. ætheriid (e-the'ri-id), n. A bivalve mollusk of the family Etheriida. Etheriidæ (e-the-ri'i-dē), n. pl.
