A.,1858; M.A., 1860; was ordained deacon 1858, priest 1859; was curate of Quedgeley, Gloucestershire, 1858-60; rector of Leg bourne, Lincoln shire, 1860-83; since 1879 has been canon of Stow Longa in Lincoln Cathedral and since 1883 rector of Epworth, Diocese of Lincoln. With Rev. C. J. Abbey he wrote, The English Church in the Eighteenth Century, London, 1878, 2 vols.; and separately, William Law, Nonjuror and Mystic, 1880; Life in the English Church, 1660-1714, 1885; The Evangelical Revival in the Eighteenth Century, 1886; and contributed to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (9th edition) and The Dictionary of National Biography. *
