LORRAINE

is now divided between Germany and France. It was so named as being originally the kingdom of Lothaire II. and then, later, it was LUBBOCK, divided into Upper and Lower; Lorraine. The former (between the Rhine, Sa6ne, and Meuse) was ceded to France in 1736, and the latter (between the Rhine, Meuse, and Scheldt) became part of Belgium. At the close of the war of 1870-71 a large portion of Lorraine was annexed to Germany, and now forms part of Alsace-Lorraine.
