Cynanchum (sinangkum)

[NL., Cy cynanthropy (si-nan' thrō-pi), n. [= F. cynan thropie, ie, Cf. lycanthropy. A kind of madne in which the afflicted person imagines himself to be a dog, and imitates its voice and actions. Cynara (sin'a-rä), n. [NL., Cynaraceæ (sin-a-ra'sē-ē), n. pl. [NL., cynaraceous (sin-a-ra's hi us), a. [ Cymothoa + -ida.] A family of isopod crustaceans, of the group Euisopoda, typified by the genus Cymothoa, mostly parasitic on fish. The technical characters are a broad abdomen, with short segments and a scutate caudal plate, the posterior maxillipeds operculate, and the mouth-parts formed for biting or sucking. There are several genera besides Cymothoa, as Serolis, Æga, Eurydice, Cirolana, and Ceratothoa. Also written Cymothoadæ.
