Shoot

Any arrangement constructed and fitted on the incline, for coals, ashes, etc., to slide down; as a „Coal-shoot”, down which coals pa from the shore into a ve el; „ Ash-shoot ”; one down which ashes, from a steamer are discharged into the sea; u Scupper-shoot a piece of metal or leather, fixed on the outside of a ship directly under a scupper-hole, to prevent dirty water discharged from the deck through the scupper running down the topside-planking or plating of a ve el.
