Caustic

(kos’-tik). A substance which burns living ti ue. The most common form is nitrate of silver, pointed like a pencil, and held in a metal clip. The nurse must be careful to keep the caustic covered, and, in using it, must only touch the prescribed area. Perchloride of iron and sulphate of copper are slightly caustic. — s. 26 —
