(It. contorno.) In the Fine Arts, the external lines which bound and terminate a figure. The beauty of contour consists in those lines being flowing, lightly drawn, and sinuous. They must be carefully and scientifically drawn, which cannot be effected without a thorough knowledge of anatomy. [s. 293]
