Webb, Samuel Blatchley

(1753-1807). Born in Connecticut. Took part in the civil and military movements that preceded the Revolution in 1775. Com manded a company of Light Infantry in the battle of Bunker Hill. In 1776 appointed private secretary and aide-de-camp to Washington. In 1777 took part in the American expedition to Long Island, and captured with his troops by the British fleet; released in 1780. Afterwards brigadier-general.
