[NL., in form as Gr. Ἄρχιππος, a proper name.] A butterfly, Danaus arc hippus: the technical specific name used as an English word. Archiptera (är-kip'te-rä), n. pl. [NL., Pseudo neuroptera tera of other authors. arch i pterygium (är" kip-te-rij 'i-um), n.; pl. arch i pterygia (-a). [NL., I have given the name of Archipte rygium to the ground-form of the skeleton, which extends from the limb bearing girdle into the free appendage. Gegenbaur , Comp. Anat. (tr.), p. 473.
