is defined as the locus of a | point the sum of whose distances from two fixed points is constant. It is also an equation of the secondary degree, the highest terms of which represent two imaginary lines. The orbit of a particle, moving under the influence of a central force, which varies inversely as the square of the distance of the particle is an ellipse.
