(rās.) [From L. rad iz, a root.] (Geneal.) The lineage of a family, or the series of descendants indefinitely continued.-(Bot.) A marked variety susceptible of di emination by seed.- [From A. S. ras, a rushing. A strong and swift current of water, or the channel through which it runs; as, the Race ofAlderney.(Pl.) (Sports.) Meetings of horses for competition in speed; the winner taking a certain prize or stake: the arena on which they run is termed a race-course, and the horses, trained and bred for such contests, racers.
