pl. [Mod. Lat. nymph on; Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -idœ.] Zool .: A family of Arachnid a of the aberrant order Pantopoda, or Podosomata. They have pincer-like cheliceræ and palpi, and long legs. They are akin to the Pycnogonide, and, like them, frequent sandy sea-coasts at low water, crawling among marine plants or hiding under stones. They have certain affinities with the Crustacea. nym-phot-o-mỹ, s . [Gr. nymphe =a bride, a nymph, and tomē =a cutting; temno to cut.] Surg.: The circumcision of the female; the excision of the nymphe. nys, v. i. [For ne ys.] Is not. Bot .: A genus of Alang i a cere, or of Cornacese, or the type of a distinct order Ny acese. Ny a villosa is the tupelo, sour gum, black gum, or pepper ridge tree, of the United States. The wood is difficult to split. The sub-acid fruit of Ny a capi tat a , or candicans , is sometimes called the Ogechee Lime, and used as a substitute for the common lime. 2.
