HOUDON, JEAN ANTOINE

(17401828), Fr. sculptor; won Priz de Rome, 1761; studied in Italy for ten years; achieved great succe with statue of St. Bruno; later works included statues of Washington, Cicero, and Voitaire; and busts of Napoleon, Molisre, Rou eau, American author, 6. in Newton, Ia. He graduated from the University of Towa, in 1880. In 1895 he made an exploring trip in the midst of winter through Yellow stone Park, the result of which was an Act of Congre , protecting the Park buffalo.
