Buena Vista

(bwe'nah vis'tah.) [Sp., fine view.] A small place in Mexico, 7 m. S. of Saltillo, and 90 S.W. of Monterey, famed for the great battle fought near it, Feb. 22-23, 1847, between the American army under Gen. Taylor, and a force of 20,000 Mexicans under Santa Anna, in which the latter were utterly defeated. This action is also called the Battle of La Angostura.
