Malaria

Infectious disease, caused by the plasmodium malaria, characterized by fever of an intermittent, remittent and pernicious type. It has the widest geographical distribution of all the infectious diseases; especially prevalent in the tropics, and in marshy localities. Treatment consists of quinine, aided later by tonics, as iron and arsenic.
