[Fr.] A French confection made by simmering apples in new-made wine or in cider. rāiş-Ing, pr. par., a. . [RAISE, v.] A. & B. As pr. par. & particip. adj.: (See the verb.) C. As substantive: raising-piece, s. 3347 Carp.: A piece of timber laid on a brick wall, or on the top of the posts or puncheons of a timber framed house, to carry a beam or beams. raising-plate, s.
