(shrōv-tūz'de.) [ Preterite of shrive, to confe .] (Eccl.) The Tuesday after Quinquagesima Sunday, or the day immediately preceding the first of Lent; being so called because the Roman Catholic Church enjoins confe ion to be made on that day in preparation for the feast of Lent. [s. 823]
