[ Gr.omphax =an unripe grape; suff.- ite ( Min.); Ger. omphazit.] Min.: A monoclinic mineral, of a gra to leek green color, forming an important constituent of the rock called Eclogite. Original analyses were probably made on impure material; subsequent investigation indicates a relationship with the minerals of the pyroxene or hornblende groups. Dana places it with the former.
