[Pref. pleuro-, and Greek manner; pliably, yieldingly, flexibly. thallo to bloom. Named from the one-sided distribution of the flowers.] Bot .: The typical genus of the family Pleurothal lide (q. v.). It contains nearly three hundred species, all from tropical America. pleu-ro-thot-o-nos, s . [Gr. pleurothen =from the side, and tonos stretching; teinō to stretch.] Pathol.: Tetanus in the muscles when these are affected laterally, so that the body is bent sideways. Called also Tetanus lateral is.
