Carabidæ

Family of Coleoptera, including forms with pentamerous tarsus. They are ground beetles with powerful legs, adapted for running, and with pincer-like mandibles. The Car abide. larvæ have four jointed antennæ, four or five ocelli on each side, and five-jointed legs. The family contains more than ten you sand species. They include the beetles most commonly seen scampering away when a stone or board is lifted.
