[ZOÖSPOREE.] Bot. (pl.): Reproductive bodies of certain Algals of low organization [PROTOPHYTA), as many Con fervæ (q. v.). They have ciliated proce es, which enable them to swim about, and from this animallike locomotion are with difficulty separated from the infusorial animalcules. Each zoospore when set free from the tough coat in which it is for a time encysted is capable of living independently. zō-o-spör-e-æ, s. pl. [Pref. zoo-; Gr. spora, spoa seed, and Latin fem. pl. adj. suff. T08= -ea.] Bot .: A primary group of Algals, proposed by Thuret to contain those species which are propagated by zoospores. He divides it into: (1) Chlorosporese, color usually green; (2) Pheosporeæ, color brown or olive. zō-o-spor-ic, adj. [Eng. zoospor ( e ); -ic.] Pertaining to or having the character of zoospores.
