Myomorpha (MICE)

Section of the order Rodent i a, including the Muride (Rats, Mice, Hamsters, Voles, Lemmings, etc.), Myoxide (Dormice), Spalacidæ (Mole Rats), Geomyde (Pouched Rats), and Dipodidæ (Jerboas). They have usually three molars in each half jaw, scaly tail, and cleft upper lip. House Rat ( Mus rattus ). The Mole Rats are Old World forms, with the habits and appearance of the Mole. The Jerboas of Europe, Jumping Hares of Africa, and Jumping Mice of N. America, have long, hairy tails and disproportionately long hind legs, which enable them to leap great distances. About 300 living species of Muridæ are known. The genus Mus includes Rats, Mice, Field and Harvest Mice.
